The NYAA Volleyball program is coordinated by the Northwestern Volleyball Club and is not only a club for our youth program, but is also for enthusiasts of all ages.
For more information on the club, and adult volleyball, please visit www.nwvbc.net
The kids are divided into 3 "levels" by ability:
- Level 1 is an introductory level where the kids learn the basics of serving, passing, setting and spiking.
- Level 2 is where the kids take the next steps of learning some advanced skills and running an actual offense and defense
- Level 3 is for advanced players. In this level, the kids learn a complete offensive and defensive system.
- We also offer a high school "group" which is usually merged with the Level 3 group.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What do I need to buy?
We don’t require but we highly recommend kneepads.
What about Shirts?
The NYAA will provides each child with a shirt during the fall and winter seasons that they may keep.
Is the program co-ed?
Yes. We have the boys and girls playing together.
Where are the practices and games held?
All activities are held at the Northwestern Elementary School gymnasium.
Are there tryouts for the teams?
NOT for the NYAA programs. This is a developmental program and we want to share the sport with as many kids as possible. All kids play. If a child wishes to get into a more competitive program, the Club offers the opportunity to play on tournament teams. Please note that there are tryouts in November for the tournament teams.
Do our teams play other teams?
We have occasionally played against other developmental programs but there aren’t many. We also play in a girls middle school tournament every year and have scrimmaged against other middle school teams with both boys and girls teams.
Is there a Varsity Team at Northwestern High School?
No. Presently there is an intramural program at the high school level which we run as part of the NYAA program. The goal is to have a varsity team within a couple of years. We need support from the parents to make this a reality!
Who is running the program?
Currently the program is run by Dave Hufnagle.
What is the cost?
Winter program registration fee is $40.00.
What happens in inclement weather?
The general rule has been if the school closes or dismisses early due to inclement weather, practice is canceled. If the school has a delay, there is practice. If the Saturday session needs to be canceled, your coach or the director will contact you. The club operates a website, www.NWVBC.net that always has the latest scheduling information and a complete calendar.
Where can I get more information?
The Northwestern Volleyball Club operates a website, nwvbc.net, that has complete information about the entire program, a calendar for the entire year, and other useful information.
